Joanna Yorke Dyer and the Mother's Day Project

(Pardon the grainy picture--I have a terrible camera and until I get the $800 for my new Nikon, I'm not buying a replacement!)

Joanna Yorke Dyer was a Second Lieutenant for the Ministry of Defence in Great Britain. She went to Oxford U and loved playing hockey. She was known for her enthusiasm and her charm, and was well like by everyone, including Prince William, who called her a friend. Joanna was killed following a roadside bomb attack west of Basra City on April 5, 2007.

I have learned as much as i can about Ms. Joanna Yorke Dyer in the past week. She is the name I received for participation in the Mother's Day Project. Please click on link to read about it:-) (For those of you that don't know, I've hurt my neck, so posting and typing is slightly uncomfortable! So, I'm trying to keep it short for a few days)

Just something I wanted to say about the project that struck me-- do you notice how tiny the embroidery of her name is? (It is the red in the center of swatch) This is because there are so many names---to fit them all on the tote as they are planning, the names all have to be very tiny. So sad. Hopefully peace will soon find its way to Iraq, Afghanistan, and all the other nations at war. I choose to also embroider 'peace' and a white dove in symbolism of the peace everyone is striving for.

(again, sorry for the short post on something so important--it seriously hurts to type!)
